I have wanted to pour aluminum for a quite a while. The past week I started gathering materials for a build. Most of the items can be found in the shop/farm. I purchased a lot of it because I was impatient.
Forge
3- Boxes of Fire Brick- $45 Menards
Burner-
1- Used Smith Acetylene regulator- $40
1- Propane tank (I had one)
1- 1 1/2" to 3/4" bell reducer- $5 Menards
1- 8" long, 3/4" pipe nipple- Menards
2- 4" long x 1/8" bass nipple
1- 1/8" coupler
1- 1/8" cap
1- .035" welding tip
1- Propane hose
Crucible-
5"x5"x1"4 wall square tube with a plate welded on the bottom. I also weld a couple nubs for lifting it out of the forge.
Muffin tin to pour the ingots.
The right people could probably build this for free.
I will use what I learned to cast club plaques and whatever else I can dream up. It was well worth the time spent learning. The joy of seeing molten metal is pretty awesome.
