The SoWhat Roadster Pickup--what is it worth.
« on: July 18, 2012 5:06 am »
So I have always liked this creation by Clark Bates.  I think the car has tons of great design cues and I have a RPU project that I have stolen many of the ideas from this truck.  I have talked to Clark about it and there is a guy on the HAMB that knows the guy that bought it from Clark.  The car is pretty much unchanged with a few improvements to the interior and some wiring.  I think the car is somewhat iconic of the neo-traditional era but am not sure it is actually famous in most circles partly because it was an east coast car and not west coast.  So anyway I have not talked to the current owner but talked to the guy that knows him on the HAMB and he gave me a price he thought he might let it go for.  Any guesses on what he shot me as a ball park.? Attached is the car in question...

I have always liked that rpu. I guess if I had to put a number on it that I would feel comfortable with it would be in the in the $12k - $15k range. I would think EBAY would bring around $20K. Is it famous......yes... to thoes that know what the hell is going on.

I've always liked that car too. I was thinking the same ballpark as Eyeball. If its less than that, you shouldn't be here talking about it! Then round up some E&Js to put back on it!

As a owner of `26-`27 RPU I been thinkin' mine would be in that $10K to $13K range , Clarks $15K to $18K.

I see we all think pretty similarly :-) and if it was under $12K I would be telling you about my new RPU.  If it was under $20K I may even be thinking about it (maybe), but from what his buddy tells me he thinks he would let it go for $30K.  Which seems a tad high.  :-X

Kevin (the owners buddy) said he traded an original 32 roadster body and several thousand dollars for it plus shipping blah blah blah.   I do hope to talk with the guy (Mike) that actually owns the car and get some more pics, not even sure if he wants to sell it at this point but I guess he has talked about it in the past.  I do know I don't want to buy unless it came down a ways in price.

those price ranges are about correct.  Clark certainly did not give that thing away by any means.  He made his money on it.  I would think that 13-18 would be about right.

Tokyo did you ever see the car in person when you were out on the east coast?  I am sure nothing will come out of this but it is fun to day dream.

lucky, i have seen it in person.  I remember it and saw it at latimore as well.  Never got to drive it though as Clark sold it shortly after i saw it.  Didn't know exactly where it went, but it is good to see it come up here.

serious - you are right.
